Thirsty Thursday: Black Cherry Refresher

We all need a little booster Thursday night to help us make it to Friday night. Weekends are a rare treat for a resident, especially for an intern. Even if my weekends are nonexistent, I won’t let residency take Thirsty Thursday away from me. Every Thursday, I’ll post a recipe  or review of a beverage, and put our awesome homemade bar cart to good use.

Today’s beverage is a cocktail from the lovely Sprouted Kitchen cookbook. I’ve been waiting for the heat of summer to arrive and for cherries to be in season to make this refreshing drink.

Black Cherry Refresher

From: The Sprouted Kitchen Cookbook

Serves 6

12 cherries, pitted

2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish

1 cup gin

1/4 cup St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur

1 cup cherry juice


1 1/4 cups sparkling water, or as needed

6 lime wedges, for garnish


1. Muddle the cherries and mint together until the mint is crushed and the cherries release some of their juice. Add gin, elderflower liqueur, and cherry juice and stir to combine.

2. Fill 6 highball glasses with ice. Divide the cherry mixture evenly among the glasses, and top each with sparkling water.

3. Garnish each with a lime wedge and serve immediately.
