Thirsty Thursday: Summer Shandy

In Rhode Island (where I went to college and medical school), Narragansett beer is a household staple. It’s a fantastic, local, and affordable beer. Also a Lil Rhody summertime must-have is Del’s frozen lemonade. Combine the two together, and you have a match made in heaven. Whoever thought of combining beer and lemonade together is a genius! While I love the ‘Gansett (what Rhode Islander’s nickname the brewery) De’ls Summer Shandy, I find it easier to make my own. It’s extremely simple. I bet you have the ingredients in your fridge already! You can use any beer, but I prefer something not too hoppy for a shandy. Go ahead and have one (or two!),

Shandy

From Super Natural Everyday by Heidi Swanson

Ice cubes

Pilsner Beer

Sparkling lemonade

Lemon wedges

 

1. Add ice cubes to a glass.

2. Fill half with beer and top off with lemonade.

3. Squeeze lemon wedge over top and stir.
